Between Data and Decisions:Innovative Technologies in Nursing Management

Introduction: The use of innovative information technologies in nursing is transforming care management—optimising processes, supporting decision-making, and promoting a more efficient and patient-centred approach. In a context of increasing organisational complexity, resource scarcity, and demands for quality and safety, understanding this integration is essential to guide sustainable and effective practices.
Study Objectives: To map and synthesize the scientific evidence on the use of innovative information technologies—namely artificial intelligence—identifying their applications and implications in nursing management.
Methodology: A scoping review was conducted following the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) guidelines, based on the PCC framework. A total of 390 initial articles were screened, from which seven studies were selected, published within the last 5 years, in Portuguese or English, with full-text availability, focusing on AI in nursing management; opinion pieces and duplicates were excluded.
Research Question: What scientific evidence supports the use of innovative information technologies, including artificial intelligence, within nursing management?
Results: The reviewed evidence indicates the transformative impact of innovative technologies in nursing management, demonstrating improvements in resource allocation, decision-making support, care quality, and professional development. However, barriers such as organisational resistance and lack of digital competencies persist. Strategic leadership and continuous training are crucial for effective and ethical implementation.
Conclusion: Artificial intelligence shows potential to enhance nursing management by supporting decision-making and optimising resource allocation — its integration requires appropriate training and ethical reflection.
