Abstract

Introduction: The increasing complexity of healthcare systems, combined with care overload and resource waste, requires management methodologies that enhance efficiency and quality. Among these, Lean System and Six Sigma (LSS) have gained prominence in the healthcare sector, including in nursing management.

Study Objectives: To map the applications and outcomes of Lean Six Sigma in the field of Nursing management

Methodology: A scoping review was conducted following the Joanna Briggs Institute guidelines and the PCC framework. Studies published in the last five years, within the field of nursing, were included, provided they addressed the question: In what ways have Lean System and Six Sigma methodologies been applied in nursing management, and what outcomes have they demonstrated?

Results: The LSS methodologies demonstrated a positive impact on process optimisation, standardisation of practices, waste reduction, improvement of patient safety, and increased professional satisfaction. However, barriers such as organisational resistance, resource shortages, and inadequate training were identified, reinforcing the importance of team capacity-building and nursing leadership.

Conclusion: This review made it possible to understand the contribution of LSS methodologies to operational and care improvement in nursing management, highlighting their transformative potential and identifying weaknesses that justify further research.
